About Us
Back-to-School Clothes for Kids is a non-profit organization that provides new clothes at the start of the school year to underprivileged children living in the New York metropolitan area. It is staffed by volunteers with the exception of a part-time administrator in the busy summer months.
Back-to-School Clothes for Kids was started by Connie Kennedy, a New Rochelle resident and 40-year employee of TAL International Container Corporation in Purchase, NY. Inspired by a newspaper article about the problems of homeless children, she decided to take action. The first year of the program, Connie, along with friends, family and co-workers raised $900 and provided clothing and school supplies for ten children. In 2013, our 28th year, we sent close to 1000 children back to school “dressed for success.” All of the recipient children are qualified by social workers from various social service agencies.
Back-to-School Clothes for Kids has received extensive regional and national media coverage. Newspapers such as The New York times and Gannett; magazines such as Family Life; TV’s Good Day New York and News 12, and Radio’s WVOX have all publicized Back-to-School Clothes for Kids for its service to needy kids and the community.
Back-to-School Clothes for Kids is a non-profit corporation exempt from Federal Income Tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our Federal Tax ID Number is 13-3468748.
